The Joyce Kilmer School is an elementary school for 4th and 5th graders in the Mahwah Township School District. Named after famous Mahwah resident and author Joyce Kilmer, the school often ceremonially honors Kilmer with events, like tree plantings. The building was constructed in 1965, with additions put on in 1967 and again 30 years later. The school has 40 classrooms, a cafeteria, library, computer lab and two gymnasiums. Many programs and clubs are offered through the school, including D.A.R.E., Project Challenge, Book Fairs, Fifth Grade Intramurals, Author Days, Spelling Bees and more.
