The militarization of the police will cost the taxpayers plenty. We are losing our rights to privacyRead More everyday in this country. They listen in on our phones, track you, everywhere there is a camera and they want to disarm the law abiding citizens. You have to ask yourself one question. Why?

Authorities say it appears the driver was "innattentive" when she caused the accident that killed a motorcyclist from Elmwood Park.
CF July 21, 2014 at 03:39 pm
Someone stopped short on Route 17 in the middle of the day.....that is unheard of. People drivingRead More with their heads up their butt in Bergen County......never. Being tailgated by someone on a cell phone .....never happens in North Jersey. People on motorcycles recklessly driving in between cars in slow (and fast) moving traffic….say it isn’t so. People please, I am surprised more motorcyclists are not killed the way people drive around here. Story says it all, person killed on the bike was tailgating as well, unfortunately they did not have a couple of tons of steel and an airbag to protect them. Watch for the lawsuit, vehicle drivers will be found to be 20% responsible for the death; poor family will get a couple of hundred grand from insurance and no apology. The guys in the Ferraris that killed the motorcyclist by Giant’s stadium got manslaughter charges by the same prosecutors office, so if they had the case, I am sure the drivers would have been charged.

The title of this article blames the Franklin Lakeswoman for killing Motorcyclist. The articleRead More itself states that Authorities have not disclosed which vehicle killed the Motorcyclist. Which is it?

Barry is right even tho she's wrong for texting. She's only responsible for the car she hit inRead More front of her. It's the drivers responsibility behind her to keep a safe distance

I'm sure next month, after we try to get over the sting of the new over-cap tax hikes, our dessertRead More (aka water/sewer tab) will give all those affected ample rebates, no? We used a lot of our Poland Spring stockpile this morning, and not too happy! Unlike my toilet, hope November has "better flushes" coming.

Isn't that where they fixed the water pipe only a few months ago? On W Ramapo Ave, the cold water isRead More brown like perhaps it has soil in it. I called the PD to ask for the Water Dept. Emergency response, but they said that they are aware of a water main break and not to drink the water. They said to wait till the morning and let the water run for a time to see if it clears up.
Ryon Cumberbatch, 29, of Brooklyn, N.Y., has been charged with 2nd Degree Vehicular Homicide in the death of Waldwick Police Officer Christopher Goodell.
Phil Brooks July 22, 2014 at 10:12 pm
M. Justicel, I agree with you in that I'm absolutely certain that being a revenue collector isn'tRead More the first thing on the mind of someone who wants to get into law enforcement in the same way I think most politicians have a sense of altruism when they run for office the first time. Ah, the best laid plans of mice and men... // Let me put it to you as bluntly as I can and please feel free to respond... Save for undercover operations, of course, if the object is safety and deterrence, then the police should be plainly visible. If the object to be revenue collectors/enhancers for the jurisdiction in which they work, then do like Officer Goodell, may he rest, and hide in a dark car in a limited sight area with your lights off at one in the morning. As far as your comment, "...if no one was doing anything wrong, there would be no tickets to write," though it's true, it's also BS at the same time. I've ridden 17 from Ridgewood on up (and from Ridgewood on down, too) too many times to count. Sure, there's a 55 limit posted. But the road, like most highways around here, is built to handle faster speeds and people routinely do 70+. Do 55 on 17, even in the right lane, and be prepared to be honked at and given the one-finger salute. And try doing 65 on 287. Hell, I often have trouble keeping up at 80. Speeding is easy money for all jurisdictions because it can be measured and quantified and often has little to do with being a menace on the road. You and I both know that there are people who do the speed limit who are far bigger dangers. Continuing... In my opinion, most cops on traffic enforcement, even in plain sight with their lights on and a paying customer in their clutches, are road hazards. They mean well and are doing nothing wrong, but how many people, when they see the lights, even on the other side of the road, bang on their brakes? It's an accident waiting to happen and I'm surprised there aren't more of them. But, a person sitting on the side of the road attempting to make himself visible, be it a cop or broken down car, with lights, flares, reflectors, whatever, though a minor traffic hazard, isn't the hazard that an unmarked, unlit police car in a limited sight area is in the middle of the night.
Chris July 22, 2014 at 10:44 pm
A calm, measured and intelligent response Phil. Will probably fall on deaf ears but still well done.Read More That police officer had no business being on Rt 17 at 1:30 in the morning or anytime unless there was an emergency that required his presence. Do we have NJSP or Bergen County PD doing radar on our local streets in 25 MPH zones? Of course not because it's not where they belong. Sad that this happened but remove the emotion as you have attempted and the facts ultimately speak for themselves.
M. Justicel July 23, 2014 at 01:02 am
Fall on deaf ears Chris, not in the least. No business being on route 17 because state police andRead More BCPD should be doing it? Sorry but it doesn't work that way. State police and BCPD can't because they simply do not have the manpower so individual towns who have state highways going through their towns have reciprocating jurisdiction. I asked my friend about it and that's what he told me. An officer that is.

Or those kids will pick the lettuce and grapes for minimal expense, so that you can buy cheapRead More produce. Because god knows Americans won't. They'll also likely bankroll the government programs that keep old people chugging along, in the form of sales taxes. Those are FAR more likely outcomes than them joining the same gangs they left their countries to get away from. But never let logic get in the way of a good rant, because 'Murka#1.

Mel that's an absolutely crock of shit. Barry told them come on and they came. You gotta stop takingRead More the Libbey High road every time you see some one crossing our boarder illegally. Uncle Jay, If you read my post, you would have noticed it was addressed to both you as well asRead More Linda. I'd like to think that you would have known what part was directed to you and what was directed to Linda. You made no assertions. You were just too damned lazy to find out where Bergen Ave. and Rt. 17 were while adding your incredulous question marks. So, I'll grow up just as soon as you get off your fat ass and do a Google Maps search which would have taken you maybe ten seconds. Actually, the amazing part is that you didn't even have to get off your fat ass to do that. And you still couldn't do it.

The shooter was an ex-con. He HATED police. For some reason, he has had enough. Maybe he was drunkRead More or stoned & didn't want to go back to jail. So he grabs a security guards gun & waits for the police to arrive & opens up on them. After killing the first cop the next two cops to arrive on the scene open up on him & kill him. Police cars need bullet proof glass & steel plates put in the doors. The results from his blood test should be coming out any day now.

If you look at the people who frequent Walmart, you get a clear, pathetic, pitiful, picture of theRead More core of the problem. Severely undereducated, easily brainwash-able, very apparent lack of self value. Perfect target voter for the republiscams. Without these types, the right wingers might eke out 10 pr 20% of the vote every election. Its no wonder why the red states are the poorest educated in the country.

@MaryLynn if Walmart is such a great company, why can't THEY help their employees? I understand ifRead More there is a divorce or death etc.....but for Christmas?? A subject in Jersey City stabbed a security guard and took the guard's handgun. If the woman owns a gun legally she should know the laws period. Laws are the laws if we like themRead More or not. I hope they cut her a break for being honest but it is her responsibility to know the laws. Ignorance of Law is no defense in the United States.
William July 21, 2014 at 08:24 pm
Thank You jersey girl. When a person legally Buys a Gun a Responsibility and Accountability comesRead More along with it. Just as with a Drivers Lic. Even tho one is a Right and one is a Privilege. Ignorance is not Bliss. Plain and simple she broke New Jersey Law, No matter the excuse The court will decide not The Public Court of Opinions, Just because in Penn. one can walk in Buy a Gun and the law says you have a right to Carry, does not give you the same rights in any other states. And THUDNJ You really think The Federal GOV. would do a better job . IRS-VA- CIA -FBI Yea Right. And to repeat my Self To Obtain a New Jersey Firearm Purchasing Permit, Be it Pistol or Shotgun. It goes threw back Ground checks From Local Police , State Police and Federal ( FBI ) checks, So in essence She or any one from out of State should have more rights the a New Jersey Citizen. And THUDNJ it is The Federal Gov, Us Senators and Congress that are coming up with these screwy laws, So every time some one is found with a Loaded gun in their car from out of State or MEXICO where they bought it Legally Most with no Background Checks or Even a Drivers LIC. Where A Drivers LIC. will be given to the Illegals if obamanation has his way they just have to say I did not know it was Illegal I am Sorry, This whole story can go on and on with Opinions when IT IS THE LAW of New Jersey she Broke,

Well deserved. I know, as a parent I am completely biased - but investing into our youth has theRead More largest potential for a lasting return. Every year that I'm at one of Police or Junior Leadership Academies graduations I am in awe that we don't just have the usual few, dedicated, close-knit townspeople pursuing some distant goal - but that they manage to put together two major programs, involving many hundreds of kids, requiring extensive time commitment by them and the instructors (no to speak of the many months of preperations/negotiations/course development). I look at the cadre of police officers who already work full-time and then are willing to supervise and interact with OUR kids for 14+ hours each day - giving up the opportunity to earn substantial amount overtime. It takes a bunch of special people at the helm of the MMA and the PD to motivate THAT many others to put in THAT much effort, for that many months ,for that many years - into something that benefits OTHER people! Of course, I have to highlight the contribution and accomplishment of (retiring) Seargant Curtis, a bundle of energy and determination, whose brain child the YLA has been. There really aren't enough words to express my gratitude.

@F-TR - well, at least it's six of one and a half of dozen of the other even though the AmericanRead More Water Christie-style pit bull bellowing water tower will offend us 24/365 – personally, if I had to pay American Water for their service, I would enclose one canned sardine in every payment envelope [tried to use your reply button to no avail - that's a 50/50 option also]

Weekender's don't pay attention to such important things like how to get out of a rip current. EvenRead More I a strong swimmer with certifications had trouble getting out of a couple of them. I also fully knew how to handle myself and it's still a killer for those who come down here to party and then think they are jumping into a pool in the backyard.
