Walk Or Buy Crafts To Support Animals of RBARI Shelter

Shop the craft sale at Copper Tree Mall on Friday and Saturday or take part in the annual Mutts Marathon at Bergen Community College

Love animals? This weekend there are plenty of fun opportunities to take part in that will directly benefit the animals of the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc., a no-kill animal shelter based in Oakland. On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 14 and 15, RBARI will host a gift and craft sale at the Copper Tree Mall in Oakland. All proceeds will directly benefit the animals at the shelter. The sale runs from 9 a.m. to 9 pm. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday dog lovers from all over the county can bring their four-legged friends to Bergen Community College in Paramus to take part in the eighth annual Mutts Marathon, a benefit for RBARI. Plants And Paws: Adoption Drive At Local Nursery

HortiCULTURE in Ramsey is hosting adoption agencies from around Bergen County this Saturday

HortiCULTURE, a nursery and garden shop on Franklin Turnpike in Ramsey, is hosting, "Plants and Paws," a pet adoption drive this Saturday. Five local pet adoption agencies - Friends of Wayne Animals, START II, Victory Rescue, Feeding the Forgotten and Scales & Tails - will be on hand, at the shop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with animals looking for new homes. The shop, which hopes to make the drive an annual event, will also host live music, pet-friendly vendors, workshops, seminars, prizes, refreshments and other activities to mark the event. At RBARI, pets from all walks of life are looking for new homes. Here are three dogs and two cats up for adoption, including one who tested positive for feline immunodeficiency virus, which causes feline AIDS. According to the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, cats with FIV can appear normal for years. "However, infection eventually leads to a state of immune deficiency that hinders the cat's ability to protect itself against other infections. The same bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and fungi that may be found in the everyday environment--where they usually do not affect healthy animals--can cause severe illness in those with weakened immune systems.
