Santa visited the Donald Cooper Railroad at the Mahwah Museum on Friday night, Dec. 21. Museum trustees said he was a big hit with all the families visiting the railroad display. The Museum is open and the trains can be viewed Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.
Letter to the Editor about one way to help this holiday season
Mahwah Patch, My name is Tom Potenza. I am a Mahwah resident and also the owner of TechLink. We are an IT staffing company located in Mahwah. I wanted to send this email to tell you about a holiday tradition that we have at my company. For the past ten years, my staff and I have bought Christmas presents for needy families. For the past three years, we have been working with the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation, and purchased presents for children with cancer, and for their siblings. The foundation provides us with a list which contains names of children, their ages, and some presents that the children wished for. My staff divides up the list and shops for the presents. We spend $50 per child and deliver the wrapped presents to the foundation …

St. Nick's annual ride through the township continues. See when he's scheduled to visit your neighborhood.
After starting his tour through the township last week, Santa is planning to visit three Mahwah neighborhoods this weekend. Each year, St. Nick grabs a ride on a Mahwah Fire Department truck and rides through the streets of the township to take pictures and listen to the Christmas wishes of good little boys and girls in Mahwah. Santa will be in different neighborhoods on different dates. Design school grad makes custom figurines for the holidays

If you’ve been shopping at Neiman Marcus in Paramus, Short Hills, Westchester, NY or King of Prussia, Penn., you’ve probably seen handmade Santa Claus figurines made by Mahwah mom Kristen Bushman. Bushman, a graduate of Parsons: The New School For Design began making the decorative Santas for her kids’ holiday boutique at Betsy Ross nine years ago. The movement's participants spend less on holiday gifts to give more; The Plant Church is sponsoring Mahwah events to urge locals to give back
The holiday shopping season is in full swing. Pastors at Mahwah’s Plant Church are asking both members of their congregation and members of the community to consider the “Advent Conspiracy” this Christmas. “Basically, it’s asking people to spend less so they can give more,” Plant Pastor Rob Parker said. “You’re still going to buy gifts for your kids and your family, but we are asking people to buy less so they can use their time and money to give back.” The Advent Conspiracy is a multi-church movement with participating groups across the country. Now that Thanksgiving 2012 is history, holiday celebrations in Mahwah can officially begin. The first is a tree lighting ceremony this Sunday. From the Mahwah Recreation Department: Tired of the stormy weather? Santa is just the right cure for Sandy. Mahwah's Annual Tree Lighting Festival will be held on Sunday, December 2 at 5 p.m. in the Senior Center at Town Hall, 475 Corporate Drive. The Joyce Kilmer Choir will entertain at 4:45 p.m. with a selection of Holiday tunes. Refreshments will be served and Santa will have gifts for all his little friends who come to meet him. The Mahwah Museum announces special holiday hours for The Donald Cooper Railroad. The Railroad – a 15-by-20 foot HO scale model – will be open on Friday nights from 6-9 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5 p.m. between Thanksgiving and Christmas. A special holiday treat for children, this railroad operates up to 8 trains – including Thomas the Tank Engine – and youngsters delight in the realistic subway that runs at their eye level. The model contains street fairs, a skateboard park, construction sites and a replica of the Great Falls of Patterson. The Donald Cooper Railroad was the gift to the Museum by Renee Darboe, a Mahwah resident, whose late husband, Donald Cooper, collected over 700 cars and 70 locomotives during his lifetime…
