Highlands Council: Gas Pipeline’s Fate ‘Not Our Decision’
Meeting Thursday expected to give gas company an exemption from the Highlands Act restrictions
The New Jersey Highlands Council is expected to make a decision Thursday regarding a proposed Tennessee Gas Pipeline extension project that would add additional infrastructure to a gas pipe going through the Ramapo Reservation in Mahwah. According to Highlands Council Executive Director Eileen Swan, the Tennessee Gas company is seeking a “Number 11” exemption from the council at its Thursday meeting, which would be “one step” in a long process to ultimately get approval to complete the project. The ‘Northeast Upgrade Project’ would add a 30-inch wide “looping” pipeline to the already-existing 24-inch line.
