Senator A No-Show At Mahwah Unemployment Event

39th District Representative Gerald Cardinale called in sick 30 minutes after event started

Senator Gerald Cardinale canceled his appearance at a Q&A session about unemployment about half an hour after it started Thursday night. About 25 locals gathered at the Mahwah Library at 7 p.m. Thursday for a Neighbors-helping-Neighbors Meet and Greet at which Cardinale was supposed to be the headliner. NhN, a community support group for people looking for work, set up the Q&A session to “give people the opportunity to ask one of our representatives questions relating to unemployment,” founder John Fugazzie said. Mahwah Town Council President John Spiech, who attended the meeting as a guest, spoke to the crowd while they waited for Cardinale to arrive. Guests also began a regular NhN meeting while waiting. Spiech announced at about 7:30 p.…

Senator To Address Unemployment At Mahwah Meeting

Senator Gerald Cardinale will take part in a Q&A session at the Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors group meeting Thursday

Residents with questions about the New Jersey job market can ask them directly to Senator Gerald Cardinale at the Mahwah Library Thursday. Neighbors-Helping-Neighbors, a support group for the unemployed that meets every Thursday night at the Mahwah Library, is hosting Cardinale. The District 39 representative is expected to give an introduction and field questions relating to unemployment from the audience. “These Meet-and-Greets are relatively new for us,” NhN founder John Fugazzie said. “But I think they are a great resource for our growing group.” Fugazzie starting NhN in January of 2011 at the River Edge Library. State Senate Approves Bill Legalizing Same-Sex Marriage; Mahwah's Rep Votes Against It

Gerry Cardinale, who represents Mahwah in the 39th legislative district, spoke out against the bill during today's debate, the NJ.com report says.  "The essential characteristic of a marriage, the very definition of the term, is it involves at least one male and one female,” he is quoted as saying. “Do not break with thousands of years of civilized tradition. This bill opens Pandora’s box.” Cardinale released a statement Monday saying "It is amazing that this extremely controversial bill is the top priority of our legislative leadership, while our taxes are the highest in the country and unemployment ravages." Gov. Chris …

Bloody brilliant, Christie. Perhaps we should put same-sex marriage on the ballot in November along with the issues of slavery and women's suffrage.   more ›

MRCC Supports Bill To Make Health Insurance More Affordable For Small Business Owners

Chamber asks locals to join letter-writing campaign

The Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce has joined a movement to push for the passage of a legislative bill that would allow for small business owners to purchase group health insurance through Chambers of Commerce, according to a release sent out by the MRCC last week. The bill, S-2874, which was introduced and referred to the Senate Commerce Committee May 12, says that small business of 50 employees or less “have traditionally been at an economic disadvantage with respect to the purchase and provision of health benefits for their employees and themselves because certain administrative and premium rate savings that are available to larger employers are not available to them by virtue of their size.” The bill, which is sponsored by Senator…
