Les Paul Bandmate Playing in Late Inventor's Honor

Show next week is part of the "Les Paul in Mahwah" exhibit

The guitarist credited with bringing longtime Mahwah resident and famed inventor Les Paul out of his self-imposed retirement will be in the township next week sharing stories about the late music man and playing some of the songs they played together at clubs in and around NYC. Museum to Tell Story of Les Paul's Personal Guitars

On Tuesday, January 22, Rik Mercaldi will present a Gallery Talk “The Story of the Les Paul Guitars on Display at the Mahwah Museum.” The talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the upstairs gallery of the Mahwah Museum. The talk is part of the year-long celebration of “Les Paul in Mahwah,” a tribute to the creative musical genius who lived in Mahwah for over 50 years.  Rik Mercaldi, owner of the Strumming Monkey, and an expert on vintage guitars, will discuss the guitars on display in the Les Paul exhibit, which were once owned and prized by Les Paul. Each of these guitars – including Les’s own performance guitar with the Les Paulverizer attached and a model specially made for Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin -- has its own unique story. Les Paul Friends Returning to Mahwah for Talk on Inventor

Nationally renowned guitarists, Bucky Pizzarelli and Ed Laub, recently visited the Mahwah Museum to play Les Paul’s Sunburst 1937 Gibson L-7 Acoustic Guitar. The guitar from Les Paul’s personal collection is on display at the Museum. Loaned to the Museum by a local collector—this instrument was the first experimental one used by Les Paul in his quest to perfect the electric guitar. Although an acoustic guitar -- which ordinarily needs no amplification – the wood body of the guitar contains holes into which Paul placed phonograph needles to experiment with amplification. Les Paul Celebration To Help Reopen Mahwah Museum

Museum updated exhibit with new displays and planned 'Les Paul Trio' Tribute Concert while it was closed

At the Mahwah Museum the popular exhibit “Les Paul in Mahwah” opens again on September 8 and continues until June 2013.      Visitors to the Les Paul exhibit have a chance to learn about Les Paul, long-time Mahwah resident, inventor, musician and self-taught engineer. The exhibit also has several new items, making another visit a must for those who have already enjoyed “Les Paul in Mahwah.”   “ECHO,” an M. Hohner harmonica used by Les Paul during the early years of his career is a new feature of the display.  Continuing as part of the exhibit is “The Log,” a fascinating visual of how a solid body guitar was built.  On Saturday, September 29, the Mahwah Museum and Ramapo College will sponsor the Second Annual Les Paul Tribute Concert at the…

Les Paul, Civil War Exhibits Begin Summer Hours

Part of the Mahwah Museum will be closed this summer

The Mahwah Museum, recently announced its summer schedule for 2012.  “Les Paul in Mahwah: A Tribute” and “New Jersey Fights in the Civil War – Remembering Soldiers Buried in Mahwah” will be open during July on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.  The Old Station Museum, 1871 Old Station Lane, will be open during July and August on Sundays from 2-4 p.m. The Donald Cooper Railroad will be closed during the summer for maintenance, but will reopen in the fall.  Admission to the Museum is $5 per person or $10 per family and admission to the Station is $3 per person.   For the summer, visitors may visit both the Museum and the Station by paying admission to one.   “New Jersey Fights in the Civil War – Remembering Soldiers Buried in Mahwah” focuses on the …

Museum Will Celebrate Les Paul's Memory For Another Year

Mahwah Museum extends 'most popular exhibit ever' through June 2013

The Mahwah Museum’s wildly popular ‘Les Paul in Mahwah’ exhibit is not closing down at the end of this month, as originally planned. According to a release sent out by the Museum Wednesday, the exhibit has been renewed for another year. According to the release, ‘Les Paul in Mahwah’ will remain open on Sundays this July from 1-5 p.m. After closing in August, the exhibit will resume on Wednesdays and weekends from 1-5 p.m. from September 2012 through June 2013.   Museum President Tom Dunn said the Les Paul exhibit has been the most popular in the Museum's history, estimating that about 3,500 people have visited 'Les Paul in Mahwah' since it opened last September. “We decided to keep it open based on popular opinion,” Museum Treasurer Mike …

Hundreds Celebrate Life, Legacy Of Les Paul [PHOTOS]

Gala celebrates what would have been the inventor’s 97th birthday

About three hundred Les Paul fans and music enthusiasts gathered at Ramapo College Saturday night to celebrate what would have been the inventor’s 97th birthday. The Les Paul Gala was put on by the Mahwah Museum as part of its “Les Paul in Mahwah” exhibit, which highlights the 50-plus years that the music legend lived in the township. Guests at the gala enjoyed food, drink, dessert, live music, raffle prizes and memorabilia. Partygoers were able to purchase Les Paul guitars, pictures, books and other merchandise via a silent auction and live auction that had in-person and online bidders. With some individual items fetching $5,000 and more, the gala raised thousands of dollars for the museum and Les Paul Foundation. Find out more about the…

'Les Paul Trio' Member Performs In Late Inventor's Honor [Videos]

For an intimate crowd of about 35 guitar enthusiasts Tuesday night, jazz guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli performed in memory of his old friend, late Mahwah resident Les Paul. As part of a calendar of special events going on at the Mahwah Museum in honor of its ‘Les Paul in Mahwah’ exhibit, Pizzarelli, who performed with Paul in the Les Paul Trio, played guitar with one of his current collaborators, Wyckoff resident Ed Laub, and shared stories and memories with the audience. “I think [this exhibit] is sensational,” Pizzarelli said as he walked through the museum’s displays before his performance.
