Group is working to help pay medical expendes for a 34-year-old Mahwah High grad diagnosed with a severe form of brain cancer earlier this year
Last month, locals started Fighting for Frank. Now, a Mahwah restaurant is giving residents a way to help. ‘Fight for Frank’ was set up to help Frank Chamberlin, who friends say was the picture of fitness and health when he was diagnosed with a severe form of brain cancer earlier this year. Chamberlin, who works at a financial services firm, played football at Mahwah High School, and upon his 1996 graduation went on to play for Boston College, and for five years in the NFL – for the Tennessee Titans, Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans. The 34-year-old was diagnosed with anaplastic astrocytoma (Grade III Glioma) in January. The Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms, a volunteer group whose mission is to support US troops by sending care packages overseas, is busy at work in preparation for the upcoming holiday season. According to the group’s president, Terry Wendrychowicz, the group has been growing, both in the number of moms who are members, and in the number of units overseas who request packages from the moms. “We have been boxing pillows donated by the Needlecraft School in Midland Park - filling hundreds of stockings with men's and women's personal care items, snack items, knit hats and knit helmet liners, socks, hand and foot warmers and so much more,” Wendrychowicz said. “We have filled gift bags with personal care items that members of …

Mahwah Marine Moms host fifth annual fundraiser
The Mahwah Marine Moms are asking residents to help fund their activities through the end of the year by attending an annual fundraiser at the Mahwah Bar and Grill Thursday. During the sixth “Support Our Troops Night,” 10 percent of all dinners purchased at MB&G between 5 and 10 p.m. will be donated to the volunteer group of moms from across North Jersey with children serving in the armed forces.
