Men Suffer Concussions, Injuries in Three-Car Accident on 287 South

Traffic was backed up for about a mile on and around Route 287 Tuesday afternoon, police said

Three men from Kingston, N.Y., were injured in a three-car accident on 287 in Mahwah Tuesday afternoon, according to police. At about 3:20 p.m. Tuesday, “a woman coming off the New York State Thruway into Jersey switched from the right to center lane, and struck a tractor-trailer that was in the center lane,” Mahwah Lt. Phil Tangel said Tuesday evening. “The tractor trailer then swerved, and hit a pick-up truck in the left lane. The pick-up hit the center median, causing some serious damage [to the truck]." Three adult males — two brothers and a friend — traveling in the pick-up were injured in the crash, police said. Two suffered a concussion and one back and leg injuries, Tangel said. All three were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital…

This is a terrible interchange with a high crash rate to begin with, and y'all fighting against the mall should also fight to have this terrible interchange completely reconstructed to stop the wrecks and terrible backups that occur during rush hour and weekends... This will get much worse as traffic volumes increase in the future...   more ›

FD: Car Collides Into Two Trees On Franklin Turnpike

Cause of accident under investigation

A woman driving alone down Winter Place at about 5 p.m. Monday crashed into two trees behind Roxanne’s Restaurant on Franklin Turnpike, Mahwah First Assistant Fire Chief Brad Stio said Monday. Her car was “totaled,” but she sustained minor injuries, he said. “The car apparently ricocheted between the two trees behind the glass [enclosure] of the restaurant, and then landed in the grass patch behind them,” Stio said. Both airbags in the vehicle deployed, he said. The vehicle did not hit the building or any other cars in the parking lot, he said. The driver was removed from the vehicle by Mahwah rescue and hazmat crews, and transported to Hackensack University Medical Center via a Mahwah Ambulance after the accident. “She was alert and …
