Strip Mall Actively Seeking Replacement for Out-of-Biz Burger Joint

Shake & Sizzle closed its doors in December. What would you like to see replace it?

A retro-style burger joint that opened its doors in the summer of 2011 is no more. Shake & Sizzle, which was one of two restaurant in the Gateway Center on Franklin Turnpike, closed in the middle of December 2012. Though Eric Levy, the property manager for the building, said he could not comment on why the restaurant closed, he said it was the owner’s decision to shut down. “Of course we were disappointed that it didn’t work,” Levy said. Shake & Sizzle went through a redesign about a year after it initially opened to the public. The restaurant was the first tenant to move into the space at 3 Franklin Tpke. since the Gateway Center opened in late 2009. But, Levy said his company is not being too sentimental about the restaurant’s closing. …

Hair Cutting Franchise To Open Location In Mahwah

Property manager said Franklin Tpke. complex is excited to have Supercuts come to the township, but the location will likely not open until this summer

A new Supercuts is coming to Mahwah. A branch of the hair cutting franchise is preparing to open in one of the vacant storefronts in the Gateway Center, on Franklin Turnpike. The township’s planning board approved Supercuts’ tenancy application earlier this month. However, managers at the complex say it may be a while until the new location actually opens to the public. According to Property Manager Eric Levy, Supercuts will be hiring a general contractor a “build out” the location, since the salon will be its first inhabitant. Levy said the contractor will come up with a renovation plan, submit it to the town for approval, and then begin the construction work.
