How To Help Family Who Lost Home in Fire Wednesday Night

The fire department has set up a clothing drive for the Mahwah family whose house burned to the ground Wednesday night

A Mahwah DPW worker, his wife and three children who lived in a two-story home off Stag Hill Road in Mahwah lost their home and all of its contents in a fire that broke out before 6 p.m. Wednesday. After fighting the fire for hours Wednesday night, the Mahwah Fire Department and emergency responders are asking the community to help the family recover from the blaze. According to officials, the township got the family a hotel room Wednesday night, and some clothes from the Ramapo Reformed Church’s clothing closet. The fire department has started a clothing drive at the Co. 1 firehouse to help fulfill the family begin to rebuild. what a nice family they are. my heart breaks for all they are going thru. I wonder if anyone knows what Christmas gifts the kids lost so that maybe some of us can try to replace them. how devastating it all must be. House Suffers Exterior Damage After Nighttime Blaze

Fire started in a wood-burning stove, officials said

A Mahwah home suffered some exterior damage after a house sitter started a fire in the home's wood-burning stove at about 9:30 Sunday night, Fire Chief Ed Garza said Monday. According to Garza, smoke started coming from the stove, and “the person could tell something wasn’t right,” so she called a neighbor to look at it. The neighbor noticed flames coming from the chimney of the Snow Drive home. Mahwah Fire Companies 1, 2, 3 and 4, and a crew from Suffern all responded to the blaze, which officials said took about an hour and a half to KO. “There was some damage to the outside of the house, and some small damage on the inside, where we had to remove the stove from where it was in the family room,” Garza said. “But the fire stayed contained…
