Community Honors Local Soldiers' Families

Locals with family members currently serving overseas were invited to a Mahwah Township Council meeting last week and presented with special honors for their sacrifices

A respectful crowd watched last week as local residents with family members actively serving in the military were honored by members of the Mahwah VFW Post 7124, the Mahwah Marine Moms, township politicians, and Senator Gerry Cardinale during a brief ceremony held at the start of a township council meeting. Families from around Bergen County received the "Blue Star Banners" Thursday as a recognition of their sacrifices. Members of the VFW post escorted members of the families to receive the recognition during the ceremony. Families of the following soldiers received banners: Also recognized at the ceremony were members of the Civil Air Patrol unit, a volunteer US Air Force auxiliary unit, that trains in Mahwah. Dinner Donations to Help Mahwah Moms 'Support Our Troops'

20% of all meals at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza next Monday-Thursday will be donated to the Mahwah Marine Moms

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza on Route 17 North in Ramsey is helping local charity organization the Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms raise money during an ongoing drive next week. The Mahwah Marine Moms is a group of volunteers who send care packages to troops serving overseas. Throughout the year, the group works with local businesses to raise funds that help pay for the packages. Next Monday through Thursday, locals can stop at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza between 11:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. to "Support Our Troops." Anyone who mentions the fundraiser will have 20% of his or her bill donated to the organization. Get the details in the attached flier.

Marine Moms 'Support Our Troops' Night To Help Send Care Packages Overseas

Night has been rescheduled for next week after Sandy affected turnout at the original event

The Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms, a volunteer group whose mission is to support US troops by sending care packages overseas, is busy at work in preparation for the upcoming holiday season. According to the group’s president, Terry Wendrychowicz, the group has been growing, both in the number of moms who are members, and in the number of units overseas who request packages from the moms. “We have been boxing pillows donated by the Needlecraft School in Midland Park - filling hundreds of stockings with men's and women's personal care items, snack items, knit hats and knit helmet liners, socks, hand and foot warmers and so much more,” Wendrychowicz said. “We have filled gift bags with personal care items that members of …

Stryker Teams Up With Marine Moms For National Day Of Service

Employees put together 275 packages for the moms

To honor the National Day of Service and Remembrance on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, Stryker Orthopaedics welcomed representatives from Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms to its Mahwah campus as part of a care package donation drive and community service event. Employees collected items and assembled nearly 275 care packages to donate to the locally based organization. American Flag From Afghanistan To Fly Over Mahwah

Township acknowledged families of those currently serving overseas

An American flag flown on the battlefield in Afghanistan will fly over the township, thanks to the Mahwah Marine Moms – a charity organization that sends care packages to troops overseas. During a ceremony at town hall Thursday night, the Moms presented the flag to the township, asking that it be flown “in honor and support of those who have served and those who continue to serve,” Moms founder and President Terry Wendrychowicz said. Marine Moms Selling Boulders Tickets Tuesday

Head to the Mahwah Bar & Grill to pick up tickets to charity game

The Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms, a township-based charity organization that gathers, wraps and ships care packages to soldiers fighting overseas, is selling advance tickets to the Rockland Boulders game on July 21. “We do a lot of small events to raise money, but this is a big one,” Moms founder and President Terry Wendrychowicz said. “This is the first time that we’ve had a fundraiser like this. The team has a stack of tickets to the Boulders’ July game against the Worcester Tornadoes. If the MMM can sell at least 250 tickets, the Boulders will donate a portion of each sale to the Moms. According to organizers, money collected is used mostly to cover shipping costs. So far this year, the Moms have spent over $3,000 …

Each year, Memorial Day marks a spirit of remembrance that one group in Mahwah feels everyday. The Mahwah Marine Moms and North Jersey Military Moms, a township-based charity organization that gathers, wraps and ships care packages to soldiers fighting overseas, work closely with Mahwah’s VFW to keep soldiers of the past and present on residents’ minds. There are so many things that we take for granted that are in short supply for soldiers. Personal hygene products are hit or miss. Dance Spectacular Sunday

The Hindu Samaj Temple and Community Center is sponsoring a Spring Dance Spectacular, celebrating the area’s cultural diversity and featuring award-winning dance troupes from all over the region. The dance celebration is a benefit performance for the Mahwah Marine Moms-North Jersey Military Moms. Admission is free.  Free-will donations at the door will be appreciated.  The dance celebration promises to be a colorful extravaganza, showcasing a variety of costumes and dance styles—Indian Classical, Spanish Flamenco, Italian Tarantella, American Tap, American Swing, and Irish Dance. Dance Spectaular Will Introduce Mahwah To Hindu Temple

Charity event April 1 will benefit Mahwah Marine Moms

This April, Mahwah will get a formal introduction to the Hindu Samaj Temple, an ornately-decorated building on Route 202 that members say has been somewhat of a mystery to the rest of the community since it was built in 2008. The introduction will take the form of a dance spectacular that will raise money for the Mahwah Marine Moms. Earlier this month, volunteers at the temple announced they formed the SAHARA Outreach Committee, which has the “sole purpose of serving the broader community by lending a helping hand.” Its first big event is a Spring Dance Spectacular April 1. Dancers from Mahwah and surrounding towns will perform Indian Classical, Spanish Flamenco, Italian Tarantella, American Tap, American Swing, Irish Step and other types …
