Mahwah Mourns Sandy Hook Victims [PHOTOS]

The township hosted a multi-faith prayer vigil to honor the victims and their families Monday night

The people of Newtown, Conn., are “no different than the people of Mahwah,” Mayor Bill Laforet told a crowd of over 100 residents who gathered in the Mahwah High School auditorium to pray for the victims of Friday’s school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. The prayer vigil, organized by the township and attended by members of the Mahwah police department, fire department, ambulance corps, emergency responders, and town council members, as well as township residents, invited local leaders of different faiths to lead the group in prayers for those affected by the shooting that claimed 26 victims, 20 of them children. “No matter where you are on your faith journey, stop, and pray for these people,” Pastor Rob Parker of Mahwah’s Plant …

Mahwah Schools Taking 'Additional Measures to Heighten Safety'

In light of last Friday's school shooting, are you worried about the safety of Mahwah's students?

In light of an elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn., last Friday that shocked the nation and has many parents concerned about the safety of their own children, Mahwah school district officials say they are adding “heightened security” measures to township public schools. Officials declined Monday to comment on the specifics of any security plans changed as a result of the shooting, but did post a note to Mahwah parents on the district website: "Friday our nation suffered an unimaginable loss, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Mahwah To Host Prayer Vigil in Honor of Connecticut School Shooting Victims

Event is at Mahwah High School Monday night at 7 p.m.

Three days after a gunman killed 20 children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., residents in Mahwah, NJ – less than a two-hour drive from the Connecticut town – are looking to honor the lives lost in the tragedy. The township announced Monday afternoon it would be hosting a prayer vigil for the Sandy Hook Elementary School and the Newtown Conn., community Monday night in the Mahwah High School auditorium.
