This year, 188 Mahwah kids are playing
This past Sunday marked the opening of the tennis season for Mahwah Youth Sports. Tennis is a seven-week clinic for Mahwah kids in Pre-K to 8th grade. The tennis program has grown over the past two years. Last Spring, the program had approximately 130 participants. This year, it is up to 188. The program is a great example of community as students from the boys and girls Mahwah High School tennis teams volunteer to teach the younger kids the basics of tennis while the older kids are trained by tennis pros. You can follow Mahwah Youth Tennis on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram or visit their website www.mahwahyouthtennis.org. The above was submitted by Rec Tennis Commissioner David May.

Last Friday, the high school team won the Bergen County Fall Classic Tennis Tournament by beating the team from Indian Hills. Teams from 12 schools around the area compete in the “very well run” tournament, Parker said. “We have a nice combination of experience and youth on the team that I think and hope will help us do well for the rest of the season,” he added. The members …

Team simultaneously raises $2K for a good cause
The Mahwah girls varsity tennis team has picked up an honor it hasn't gotten since 1994. Coach Bob Parker sums up the girls' season: "We finished the season in a tie for the Big North - Patriot Division Championship with Indian Hills. Our League record was 10-1, with our only loss being to Indian Hills, and our overall record was 18-5. In order for us to accomplish this we had to win every one of our matches during the last 2 weeks of the season. These matches included division matches against Ramsey (we beat them twice), Indian Hills (we avenged our first loss to them earlier in the season with a very exciting 3-2 win) and Pascack Valley (we beat them twice) to seal the tie for the League and complete the season. Our team hasn't won a …
