A brand new smartphone application available to NJ Transit riders in South Jersey to let them know bus arrival times is coming to the northern part of the state, reports NJ.com. “MyBus Now” was unveiled in December in a pilot program for bus routes near Trenton and Princeton. used in South Jersey last December. By April, it had spread to Atlantic City and Camden. A version of the program has been in Morristown since 2010. Now it's North Jersey's turn: This area is expected to have the free service by the end of the year. The app uses GPS and some proprietary technology to tell users at bus stops the buses within 30 minutes of their location. As a tribute to his advocacy of mass transit, U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg's body was placed aboard a D.C.-bound Amtrak train in Secaucus Wednesday. Lautenberg's family and staff accompanied the senator for his final Amtrak ride to the nation's capital, where he'll be buried on Friday in Arlington National Cemetery. Prior to the Amtrak send-off, Rabbi Daniel Cohen of Sharey Tefilo-Israel in South Orange, the congregation where the senator belonged, eulogized Lautenberg during a ceremony and color guard salute at the Secaucus Junction station's main concourse.

A new customer satisfaction survey of New Jersey Transit customer’s post-Superstorm Sandy has overwhelmingly endorsed the job the agency has been doing, according to an announcement by the Christie administration and the agency Tuesday. In the online survey conducted Feb. 4 through February 25, or during the third quarter of the agency’s fiscal year, nearly four in five customers, or nearly 14,000 participants on the agency's website (njtransit.com) said they would recommend NJ Transit to a friend or relative. The results mark a new high for the statewide public transit agency. NJ Transit is offering extra rail and bus routes to Manhattan Saturday

NJ Transit is raising the fares at some of its Pascack Valley, Main and Bergen County line stations.
NJ Transit is raising the fares at 16 of its train stations March 1, according to an advisory posted on their website. The increase will affect all rides from the Mahwah train station, as well as other stations on the Main/Bergen Line, as well as the Pascack Valley Line. A single ride to Hoboken from Mahwah will cost $10.25 and a single ride to Penn Station will cost $13. A full fare chart is available on the NJ Transit website here. The increase is coming because of a rate increase on Metro-North trains. The two lines have an agreement to keep fares consistent, though this has caused some stations on the Pascack Valley and Main/Bergen lines to have lower fares than on other NJ Transit lines, according to the advisory. As the area braces for a potential three-to-five inches of tardy snow (not quite a White Christmas, but close, right?), NJ Transit announced that it would be cross-honoring of tickets starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Cross-honoring will remain in effect until the end of the service day Thursday, Dec. 27, enabling customers to use their ticket or pass on an alternate travel mode—rail, bus or light rail. For example, customers who normally take the bus from Rutherford to the Port Authority Bus Terminal may use their bus pass on the train from Rutherford to New York Penn Station. Winter weather event expected to bring rain, snow to region on Tuesday.
You know December is just around the corner when stories like this start coming out. As the region prepares for winter while continuing to recover from Sandy, another storm is predicted to hit the area late Monday evening into Tuesday, providing rain and snow and ensuring messy commutes.
