Traffic has been a big topic of conversation around Mahwah lately. Members of the Committee to Stop Mahwah Mall often mention traffic concerns as some of the main reasons they are against the additional development on Route 17. So, Patch is asking, is traffic a big problem for you?

Answer the latest Patch poll
Over the past few weeks, a discussion among school board members has spurred Patch readers to comment with their feelings on “Daddy Ball” at Mahwah High. The board has been considering a revised volunteer policy that would include the stipulation that parents with high schoolers on sports teams cannot be volunteer coaches. The board last Wednesday did not make a final decision regarding the proposed policy, but articulated reasons that they, and parents in the district, both support and oppose the idea. Supporters say that stopping parent volunteerism in high school sports would stop actual and perceived nepotism. The board also said that the policy is a common one in Bergen County. Freeholder Hermansen says petition from residents would be necessary
At last week's Candidates and Issues Night hosted by the Mahwah Tea Party, Freeholder Rob Hermansen, a Mahwah resident, fielded a question on Bergen County's "Blue Laws," which keep stores closed on Sundays, from the audience. As seen in the video, Hermansen says that he will not move to change the law. However, he might consider other options if residents present a petition on the topic to the Bergen Board of Freeholders. The topic has become one of discussion in Mahwah as the Crossroads Developer recently submitted a site plan for a mall to be built off of Route 17 in the township. Yeah - they're not supposed to do that. Sometimes a Mahwah police officer is sitting on the other side waiting to ticket those people. Too bad there wasn't on there Friday. If people know they're going to get ticketed for doing that, they won't be as likely to do it.
