Mahwah Teens Having 'Un-Valentine's Day' Party

The event Thursday, hosted by the Mahwah Public Library, is celebrating the young and single

This Thursday, Mahwah tweens and teens will be celebrating the single life. The Mahwah Public Library is hosting an ‘Un-Valentine’s Day’ Party Thursday afternoon for fifth through twelfth graders who are not excited about the card, candy and flower exchanges happening elsewhere in the township. According to Teen Librarian Denise Jukniewicz, activities at the event may include decorating un-heart cookies, re-writing heart candies with alternative messages on them, making anti-Valentine’s Day cards for one another, and creating un-Valentine’s Mad Libs. Kids can also look forward to games like beach ball volleyball and videogames. The party is after school, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day at the library. Get more information here. …

Think Outside The Chocolate Box This Valentine's Day

Holiday alternative raises money for the Center for Food Action

This Valentine’s Day, lovebirds in Mahwah are being encouraged to celebrate Cupid’s holiday in an unconventional way. The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is hosting “Wine Down To Fight Hunger And Homelessness,” on February 16. Couples are being asked to replace candy and flowers with a charity event to benefit the Center for Food Action in Mahwah. The event will play up the romance of the holiday; “Wine Down” will feature fine wines and gourmet foods at Seasons in Washington Township. However, sweethearts will get a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that their displays of affection are for a good cause, as proceeds from the night go to the CFA.
