I live and work at Carmel Retreat over here on Rt. 202, Ramapo Valley Road. You may have driven past along our stone wall. We are a spiritual retreat center planted here since 1955 on about 30 acres, owned by the Roman Catholic order of Carmelites ... of which I've been a member for about 40 years.

Allow me to clarify one frequently misunderstood aspect of "spiritual retreat center":

YES, we are a Roman Catholic ministry ...

But NO, you or your group don't have to be Catholic in order to enjoy our programs, facilities, and grounds. All are welcome.

After teaching high school English for 32 years (mostly in Illinois), I took a break and sought out some new adventures ... which Carmel Retreat, Mahwah, and New Jersey have provided in abundance for the past two years.
