ReplyLook. Teaching tests as some kind of negative is absurd. You have to teach test. It is a matter of academic survival. Are you really serving a child well if you do not teach tests, given that everything the student does that will be measured by with any sort of significance will be measured by tests. Test, test, test. Get used to it. Everything you do professionally from here on is measured by tests. You test to get to the next grade. Test to get to the best colleges. Test to get from one semester to the next, and you test to compete for the best jobs. You test to get professional tittles, etc. It's true that test grading is not looking at the entire person, but if you do not face this reality, you are living in another reality.

ReplyI like the idea of the students being engaged in this study. Further, I strongly believe that the students should be considered experts as the word Expert seems defined in most dictionaries. Collectively these students do have combined significant intelligence and expertise in the matter and their work will probably match or exceed the quality of anything anyone else can produce. Ramapo College is one of the pre eminent environmental studies and science institutions in NJ. This is the place to go if you like this field of study. Further, the students are not tied to any political agenda. Which must scare those that are tied to agendas, which is why I agree that this study will probable be refreshing and teach many of us a thing or two about something that the business world inherently lacks and that is ethics. Nothing against business. I think that business is essential to any society, but lets face it, business has one and only one rule and that is finding the way to make the next buck and little to do with taking a stand on principle, clean water, the environment or bald eagles and wildlife. These things are secondary to business and are considered romantic notions and the relevant as it pertains to the cost of doing business, just as taxes, labor, materials, etc are also costs of doing business and you cut where you have to. The work that these students will produce will probably be one of the best independent studies we are likely to see. I cannot wait to see it.

ReplyPeople are hurting in this country, and this man makes the news on gay marriage support. Talk about a disconnect. You think that people that may loose their homes or do not have enough to feed their kids give a rat's A about how other people choose to engage in unhygienic copulation.

I have no respect for this man. He is not a Martin Luther King. He is not even fit to tie his shoes. He spent 4 years going down a checklist that the previous president gave him like a good little boy. Starting with the wars, saving the big banks. Etc, etc. He promised to deliver his people and lets see how far we have gotten on that. Less minorities going to colleges, more crime in cities, more drugs, more minorities in jails, more homeless, more of everything we do not want and less of everything we want. If I was a minority, I would be reminiscing about the good old days under both Bushes.
